Bottle Cap Collection
The Kokua Hawaii Foundation will not be having a plastic bottle cap collection drive this year. Instead, they are asking interested parties to create a mural using bottle caps and other marine debris.
The winning entries will be featured in a KHF calendar.
While we see the value in promoting awareness of important environmental issues such as marine debris and the negative effects it has on our oceans, Mililani 'Ike will not be participating in this activity this school year.
We'd like to sincerely thank all of you for collecting and turning in your bottle caps. With your support, Mililani 'Ike placed first in the state last year for total weight of bottle caps collected.
With our decision not to participate in the mural contest, we ask that you please not drop off bottle caps at the school. We will be looking for a participating school to donate the caps collected so far this year.
HI-5 Recycling Drive for Wounded Warrior and Tripler Fisher House
We will be having a HI-5 Recycling Drive on January 29, 2015 during Spirit Week. One of our Spirit Week Themes will be a "Support our Military Day!" so all funds raised will be donated to two wonderful charities that support our military. Wounded Warrior Project is an organization that works to empower injured service members and their family members. Tripler Fisher House is a "home away from home" for families and patients receiving medical care at Tripler Army Medical Center. Last year we collected 70 bags during our HI-5 collection and this year our goal is 100 bags to be eligible for the pick up of our items. If each 'Ike family donates half a garbage bag of containers we will exceed our goal!

College and Career Week
Dear Parents and/or Guardians:
During the week of December 8-12, 2014 we will be focusing
our attention on “College and Career Readiness”.
At school we are starting the students off on the road to
success with the academic skills of reading, writing and math. We also teach, reinforce and encourage our
students to follow and live our 6 Pillars of Character. In promotion of this event, we are taking it
one step further helping students develop an awareness that what they are
learning and the behavioral choices they are making can have an impact upon
their future. We would like to enlist your support in this venture.
We are asking for you to share with your child at home what
you do and what you have accomplished in order to succeed at your job. This includes any training and or schooling you
have completed. Your child is already
proud of you as their parent, with this sharing I know that each child will
beam even more.
We will be having various speakers come into the school to
speak about their career. These speakers
will be sharing about what they do and they will be including an added emphasis
on the education that has been required to be completed in order to succeed in
their chosen field. We are also asking
the speakers to include any of our pillar traits that are necessary as
well.
A bulletin board will be set up in the cafeteria. It contains a world and USA map of the technical
schools, colleges and universities our Mililani ‘Ike staff has graduated
from. Each location will note down the
name of the school and the degree and the number of graduates from that
school. Please feel free to stop by and
take a look. We not only believe in
teaching your child, we are also committed to continuing our own
education.
Lastly, your child is welcome to wear a college shirt during
the week of December 8-12. Our school
staff is being encouraged to wear them as well.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our
counselors, Mr. Steve Nakaguma or Mrs. Rosanne Oda-Ching. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Lynne
