Employment Opportunities School Year 2019-2020

If you love children and want to work in a team-oriented environment, Mililani 'Ike Elementary is the place to work at.  We are looking for anyone interested in being an adult supervisor to work in our lunch room (10:45 am to 12:15 pm) or as a morning breakfast scanner (7:00 am to 8:00 am).  We are also looking for people who are interested in being a substitute educational assistant (7:00 am to 3:30 pm).

Mililani 'Ike Elementary is accepting Current Grades K-4 Gifted and Talented Nominations from Parents and Teachers beginning Tuesday, April 16 - Thursday, April 25, 2019.  (We are extending the deadline to Thursday, April 25.)  If you are interested in nominating your child, please pick up a packet of forms from the school office and submit all completed forms by the deadline: Thursday, April 25, 3:45 p.m. Forms can be submitted to any office personnel: Attn: GT Coordinator, Alison Tanaka. Testing and screening of nominated students will be conducted next school year during the months of August and September. 

Student Council Spirit Store

We have re-ordered a limited number of our popular plush mini Pueo!  The Spirit Store will be open on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 23&24) during first recess for anyone interested in purchasing one.  The cost of the mini Pueo is $6.

Celebrating the Third Quarter!

Dear Mililani ‘Ike Families,

Thank you very much for a fantastic Third Quarter of school!  The school year has flown by so quickly and it is hard to believe we are in the last quarter of this school year.  Third quarter brought many exciting events like:   Character Counts Week, Read Across America, Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, and ‘Ike Family Movie Night, just to name few.   Another major accomplishment was conducting our Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation process.  I am so thankful to our dedicated school community that helped to share our school’s self-study with the visiting team as we continue to revisit ways to continue making Mililani ‘Ike a special place to be.  

With many families beginning to plan for the upcoming holiday and summer break, either taking the opportunity to travel or remain at home enjoying our island amenities, I want to share a few reminders:

1. Be safe and aware of your surroundings. Be careful when crossing streets, buckle up in cars, and minimizing cell phone usage will help to keep us all alert.
2. Communicate clear supervision responsibilities.  Where and when to meet and clarify who is responsible for specific duties.
3. Be friendly and share your Aloha Spirit

Please mark your calendars for our May Day on Friday, May 10, 2019.  This years theme will be 
Na Keiki ‘O Ke Anuenue – The Children of the Rainbow.

Registration for Mililani `Ike's Summer School Enrichment Program will begin on Thursday, April 4, 2019.  All students currently in grades K-4 are welcome to apply.  Applications will not be accepted prior to 4/4/19.  To apply, please complete the attached application and submit with payment to the Mililani `Ike office on or after April 4th.  Applications will also be available at the school office.

Stop the Flu at School:  Let's All Stay Healthy

Please help us keep our students, teachers and staff healthy.  Please read this important message from Mrs. Tsuhako.

Dear Parents/Guardians:

As we are approaching cold and flu season, the health room at Mililani ‘Ike has already seen students with possible flu like symptoms.  Our goal is always to keep everyone healthy to enjoy school and learning.  Children who are feverish, nauseated or just tired can’t learn well and spread their illness to others. We would like to remind you to please keep children home when they have signs or symptoms of the following illness:

• Fever greater than 100 degrees - Your child should be fever free, and off of ALL fever reducing medication for 24 hours before he or she returns to school. Students returning to school before they are well are more susceptible to illness and may expose other students and staff.  Please do not give your child medication to treat a fever and then send him or her to school. 
• Vomiting and/or Diarrhea - Your child should stay home until the vomiting or diarrhea is over, and for 24 hours after the last episode without medication.
• Bad Cough/Runny Nose/Congestion - Children with bad hacking coughs and cold symptoms need to stay home, and possibly see their doctor in case of secondary infections.  When the symptom improves and your child is feeling better, he/she may return to school.
• Sore throat - A minor sore throat is usually not a problem, but a severe sore throat could be a symptom of a more serious illness. Keep your child home from school and contact your child's doctor if your child is diagnosed with Strep Throat.  He/she may return to school 24-48 hours after initiation of appropriate prescribed medication with no fever.
• Eye Inflammation or Discharge - If your child's eye is red, itchy and swollen; has yellow/green discharge; crusty eyelids upon waking with eye pain, you should keep your child home, and contact your child's doctor.  If your child is diagnosed with pink eye, he or she may return to school 24 hours after treatment begins.
• Unusual Spots/Rash - Do not send your child to school with a rash until their doctor has said that it is safe to do so. Children with ringworm, scabies, or impetigo can return to school after 24 hours after beginning treatment. The affected area should be covered if possible.

To help prevent the spread of flu and colds, teach your child the following:

• Wash hands frequently:  Teach your child to wash their hands for as long as it takes to sing the entire “Happy Birthday “ song.
• Keep hands away from eyes, nose and mouth.  
• Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, use tissue, throw it away and then wash hands.  

Your child should be physically able to participate in all school activities on return to school.  Keeping a sick child at home will minimize the spread of infections and viruses in the classroom.
