Celebrating the Third Quarter!

Dear Mililani ‘Ike Families,

Thank you very much for a fantastic Third Quarter of school!  The school year has flown by so quickly and it is hard to believe we are in the last quarter of this school year.  Third quarter brought many exciting events like:   Character Counts Week, Read Across America, Green Eggs and Ham Breakfast, and ‘Ike Family Movie Night, just to name few.   Another major accomplishment was conducting our Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation process.  I am so thankful to our dedicated school community that helped to share our school’s self-study with the visiting team as we continue to revisit ways to continue making Mililani ‘Ike a special place to be.  

With many families beginning to plan for the upcoming holiday and summer break, either taking the opportunity to travel or remain at home enjoying our island amenities, I want to share a few reminders:

1. Be safe and aware of your surroundings. Be careful when crossing streets, buckle up in cars, and minimizing cell phone usage will help to keep us all alert.
2. Communicate clear supervision responsibilities.  Where and when to meet and clarify who is responsible for specific duties.
3. Be friendly and share your Aloha Spirit

Please mark your calendars for our May Day on Friday, May 10, 2019.  This years theme will be 
Na Keiki ‘O Ke Anuenue – The Children of the Rainbow.

Dear Mililani ‘Ike Families,

Hope everyone had an enjoyable Holiday Season!  This year is already moving quickly.  We are almost in the month of February with many exciting and important events. 

February marks the beginning of African American History Month.  We would like to celebrate the many influential leaders that have and are continuing to make significant contributions to our country.  This is a terrific opportunity to have learning discussions with your child.  Here are a few resources for you to preview and share with your child:

This month we will also be hosting a Western Association for Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation committee.  The visiting committee will be on our campus from February 4 – 7, 2019.  During this time, the team will be meeting with teachers and staff, visiting classrooms, and speaking to students and parents.  Their goal is to learn about the different learning opportunities happening at our school.

Our fifth grade student council representatives are coordinating a Pedestrian Safety Week from February 19 - 22.  These students discussed and researched problems in our state.  Through their research, they came to the agreement to focus on pedestrian safety.  The students discovered that pedestrian accidents are the second leading cause of death of children.

Please also save the date for our May Day program!  This special day will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019.  More information will be sent home with your child in the upcoming months.

We have a full quarter!  Please continue to have your child share what he/she is learning in class.  Find interesting topics for your child to read about and ask questions.  Our goal at Mililani ‘Ike is to champion all students to become critical thinkers!

Stop Flu at School Program

Aloha Parents/Guardians:

We regret to inform you that our school was not selected for the Stop Flu at School Program for the 2018-2019 school year.  Due to financial and staffing constraints, the Department of Health (DOH) is not able to offer free vaccines to all public and private schools.  Only some schools with the greatest needs were selected.

Although the Department of Health is not able to offer our school free vaccines, we highly encourage your child to still be vaccinated for the flu by your healthcare provider.  Most health insurance plans cover the cost of recommended vaccines.  Please check with your insurance provider for details of coverage. 

In addition to vaccination for everyone ages 6 months and older, Department of Health recommends other flu prevention strategies, which includes staying home when sick, covering coughs and sneezes, and washing hands frequently.
