Traffic Safety Request
Dear Mililani ‘Ike Families,
I am writing this letter asking for your support in keeping our students safe. We received a report from a parent that our student was hit by a car while riding her bicycle to school. Fortunately, the student was wearing a helmet and was not severely injured.
This is a HUGE reminder for all adults to implement safety procedures while driving and for us to remind our students of the importance of road safety. As drivers, please drive slowly and abide all traffic laws around our school and in the neighborhood. We will be reviewing pedestrian safety procedures with all of our students. Students need to be aware of traffic and their surrounding while crossing the street either on foot or on a bicycle. A video will be shared with the students and posted onto our school’s blog. Please review the safety procedures at home.
We will continuing to work with Wahiawa Community Policing Team and ask for their support in monitoring the vehicle traffic and pedestrians around our school. Please help us to spread the word to keep our students safe as they walk or ride their bicycles to school, from school, and around our neighborhood.
Your continued support, implementation of safe driving practices, and reminders to our students is much appreciated. Together we will keep all students safe while enjoying their walk or ride to school.
Sincerely,
Lynne Ajifu
Principal

As we are approaching cold and flu season, the health room at Mililani 'Ike has already treated students with possible flu like symptoms. Our goal is always to keep everyone healthy to enjoy school and learning. We would like to remind you to please keep children home when they have signs or symptoms of the following illness:
- Fever greater than 100 degrees - Your child should be fever free, and off of all fever reducing medication for 24 hours before he or she returns to school. Students returning to school before they are well are more susceptible to illness and may expose others. Please do not give your student medication to treat a fever and then send him or her to school.
- Sore throat or tonsillitis - A minor sore throat is usually not a problem, but a severe sore throat could be a symptom of a more serious illness. Keep your child home from school and contact your child's doctor if your child is diagnosed with Strep Throat. He/she may return to school 24 hours after initiation of appropriate prescribed medication (and the absence of fever).
- Unusual Spots/Rash - Do not send your child to school with a rash until their doctor has said that it is safe to do so. Children with ringworm, scabies, or impetigo can return to school after 24 hours after beginning treatment. The affected area should be covered if possible.
- Bad Cough/Cold Symptoms - Children with bad coughs/colds need to stay home, and possibly see their doctor. When the cough improves and the child is feeling better they may return to school.
- Eye Inflammation or Discharge - If your child's eye is red with a cloudy or yellow/green drainage; crusty eyelids after sleep; eye pain and/or redness, you should keep your child home, and contact your child's doctor. If your child is diagnosed with pink eye, he or she may return to school 24 hours after treatment has began.
- Vomiting and/or Diarrhea - your child should stay home until the illness is over, and for 24 hours after the last episode (without medication).
Thank you,
Mrs. Kelsey Tsuhako
