National History Day Results

National History Day sparks passion for history in students as they embark on a learning adventure to understanding the significance of the past to our lives and society.  As students embarked on this year-long commitment, they applied critical thinking, practiced writing and research skills, interpreted primary historical documents, and recognized the importance of those who have made a difference in history.  This year, Hawaii History Day involved over 8,000 students grades 4-12 with entries from all islands.  Our 5th grade students excelled and represented Mililani 'Ike well.  We're so PROUD of their accomplishments!

Here is an attachment with some pictures and results of the State Competition.  Thank you to Alison Tanaka, Fumiko Yamada and Wilene Lum for all the countless hours they put in to prepare our students for the competition.

Hi 'Ike Families,
If it does rain tomorrow our Movie Night will be held in the playcourt.  You are permitted to bring your own blankets and chairs to sit on but the chair legs need to have a plastic covering so it will not scratch the playcourt surface.  Metal legs without plastic or rubber foot protection will not be permitted in the playcourt.  If you have any questions please call the office at 626-2980.

Meal Accounts

As the end of the school year is quickly approaching, we are asking for your assistance in keeping all meal accounts loan free.  Per our School Food Service policies, all schools must end with a positive balance.  No accounts can have outstanding balances.

To assist in clearing all meal account loans, written notifications are sent home daily with students.

White notices = Accounts running low on funds

Blue notices = Accounts with negative balances. Please pay IMMEDIATELY.

Phone calls are also made to families when accounts are in the negative.

As of May 1, daily automated calls will be generated for all students with a negative meal account balance.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety

We are asking for your assistance to please remind your children about traffic safety.  We received reports of students darting across the street from our school driveway.  The students are not looking for oncoming traffic and are placing themselves in a dangerous situation.

Hawaii Laws require all bike riders to wear safety helmets and follow all traffic laws.  Below are tips provided by the Honolulu Police Department for bicycle safety:
  • Wear clothes that make you more visible.

  • Be cautious when riding a bike at night. Make sure you have the proper lights on your bicycle. Wear reflective materials or clothing.

  • Wear a helmet. Studies have shown that wearing a helmet can reduce injuries by up to 80%.

  • Obey traffic signs, signals and road markings.

  • Be familiar with the laws pertaining to bicycles.
Please refer to their website for more information on bicycle and pedestrian safety.

Thank you for working together to keep our children and community safe.

Virtual School Tour by The DigiArt Squad

Aloha 'Ike Ohana!

Mililani 'Ike's DigiArt Squad is proud to release our first official school project. It is a Virtual School Tour of Mililani 'Ike Elementary School! The map is linked under a new "app" on our virtual tablet on the school website. www.milike.k12.hi.us

Look for this "App" on our 'Ike homepage!
(This "app" design was created by our DigiArt Squad - Aliyah L. was the talented artist who brought the idea to life in Photoshop!)

The purpose of the map is to welcome new students and families to Mililani 'Ike!   The Google Map shows a satellite view of the school and shares pictures of common areas and provides procedural information that may be helpful to both new and returning students.

All photography and text has proudly been written by DigiArt Squad members.

DigiArt Squad members learned a variety of new technologies and skills to create this virtual map.

  • Teamwork and Leadership Skills
  • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving (A LOT of problem solving!)
  • Interview skills
  • GIMP (Photo editing program)
  • Google Apps (Maps, Draw, Drive)
  • Basic Photography Techniques (Digital Cameras and iPads)
  • iPhoto
  • Basic photo editing
  • Photosphere App
You can also check out the Photosphere (360 degree) pictures we took of the school by visiting maps.google.com and searching for Mililani 'Ike Elementary.  We are working on taking a few more of these pictures and connecting them to take you on 360 degree virtual tour!

Here are a few pics of the DigiArt Squad hard at work :)

Brainstorming final steps to complete and release our Google Map.
