UPDATE: Doodle 4 Google Contest

Google has announced the 50 state winners for the Doodle 4 Google Contest and they are now available for viewing and public voting!

One of the 50 State Winners will be selected as the National Winner based on the public votes.

Unfortunately, none of 'Ike's student submissions were selected this year. However, our students drew some wonderful doodles and envisioned some amazing ways to make our world a better place!

The Hawaii winner comes from Mokulele Elementary School, in the K-3 category:

You may vote for your favorite doodle until May 9th!

Thank you to all the students that participated and for the support and assistance from our Teachers and community!

Cafeteria Parking Lot

We are asking parents not to park in the parking area near the cafeteria.  We need to keep this area clear for our Special Education bus, cars with handicap placards and our delivery trucks.  Over the past several weeks our delivery trucks could not deliver supplies to our school because of vehicles that were parked in the cafeteria parking lot.  Please use our street parking if you would like to walk your child to their classroom.  You can also use Rec Center 7's parking lot, located across the street, from 7:15 to 8:15 am and 1:30 to 2:30 pm.

Deployment Club Deadline

Mililani 'Ike will be having a Deployment Club in support of students that are affected by a parent being deployed for military service.  Monday, April 14th will be the last day to send your permission slips in for the deployment club.  Please send your permission slips either to your child's teacher or the front office.  The Deployment Club will officially start on April 21st.

Bottle Cap Challenge Wrap Up

The Hawaii School Bottle Cap Challenge came to a close on Monday, March 31, 2014.  Each participating school had to submit their total weight online to the Hawaii Kokua Foundation.  There was a mad scramble by schools trying to get more official bags from the event's sponsor.  In the end, we collected an unbelievable amount of caps.  It's hard to imagine these small pieces of plastic accounting for so much unwanted trash.  The students got a first hand view of how very important recycling is - especially on an island with limited capacity for trash.
The winner of the challenge will be announced on Earth Day (Tuesday, April 22, 2014).  Let's all keep our fingers crossed!  Thank you for all your bottle cap contributions!  Mililani 'Ike is very fortunate to have the greatest support from our families and friends!  MAHALO!
